In this 90-minute video teaching interview by ElijahForce with Mark Virkler you will discover how to have these seven experiences with the Holy Spirit in your daily life. The NASB is used throughout this teaching.
Is this seven spirits, or one spirit manifesting in seven ways?
- See: Apostles Creed – Father, Son, Holy Spirit (One Father, one Son and one Spirit - not seven spirits)
- For example, I am a: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend, companion, critic, teacher, pastor, citizen (one person capable of eleven or more manifestations)
- When you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols (plural). There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit (singular). (1 Cor. 12:2-6)
- Some other names given to the Spirit: Helper, Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:26); Spirit of Truth (Jn. 15:26); Spirit of the Lord (Acts 5:3,9); Spirit of God, Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9), etc…
- Our ONE God has 960 names: See: 960 names of God.
We are to experience the seven-fold ministry of the Holy Spirit
- He is Lord – the One in my life to Whom I give complete control
- He grants me wisdom – by way of flowing thoughts, guiding me in making wise decisions
- He grants me understanding – by way of flowing thoughts, helping me understand things
- He grants me counsel – by way of flowing insights restoring my soul
- He grants me strength – by way of overwhelming power, replacing my weaknesses
- He grants me knowledge – by way of flowing thoughts, letting me know things
- He grants me reverence for the Lord – a passion to express reverence and honor toward God
We receive the ministries of the Holy Spirit as we fellowship with Him!
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of
the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14; Philippians 2:1)
When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. (Jn. 16:13)
I hear the Spirit's voice by: quieting myself, fixing my eyes on Jesus,
tuning to flow, and writing. See this link.
Journaling by Mark Virkler with God about addressing the Holy Spirit:
Lord, am I to ask the Holy Spirit for the things He gives, or am I to ask You or Jesus?
Mark, you can ask any of the three of Us. We are one, and your messages all come to Me (the Father), and I respond.
It is good not to grieve the Holy Spirit. To address Him and call forth His gifts to you is good, for it honors Him and releases Him, His presence, and His gifts. One way of grieving Him is to ignore Him. So speak with Him, as this is good and profitable. I would have My children do it more than they are. I am revealing My Spirit in a greater way to My world. Acknowledging Him is good and important. I am not offended when you acknowledge Him. Indeed, I am honored that you have honored Him. So do it often. Do it constantly. It can only bring good to your life.
Lord, what about those who say it is wrong to address the Holy Spirit?
Mark, leave them to Me; I shall deal with them.
Lord, what is the role of feelings and experiences?
Mark, I do come in power, and I do come in authority. My power, My authority, My love, My healing, and My compassion can all be felt experiences. For I am an experience, and you can feel each part of Me. You can feel My power flowing through you, and it does feel in many ways similar to the electrical power you are used to feeling in the natural world. It does have heat, frequency, and can be seen as light. This is surely biblical. I use multiple words for power in My Holy Bible, and there are many recorded responses to it.
My presence is My person.
My anointing is My power.
Both can be felt experiences.
Both can be seen as experiences.
Mark, there is no caution in My Word about building a relationship with the Holy Spirit. He is one of Us. He is joined to Us. You can dialogue with Him as easily as you dialogue with Me, and as easily as you dialogue with the Father. We are not jealous when your attention is given to another. Each of us celebrates the Other.

Biblical examples of the seven-fold ministry of the Spirit
Spirit of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge in all craftsmanship
"I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, (i.e., 3 of the 7 in Isaiah 11:2). To prove the Isaiah 11:2 list is only a partial listing of the workings of the Spirit, more skills are mentioned in Exodus 28:3; 31:3; 35:31 …
And in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship. "… in the hearts of all who are skillful I have put skill, that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tent of meeting, and the ark of testimony, and the mercy seat upon it, and all the furniture of the tent, the table also and its utensils, and the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, and the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering also with all its utensils, and the laver and its stand, the woven garments as well, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, with which to carry on their priesthood; the anointing oil also, and the fragrant incense for the holy place, they are to make them according to all that I have commanded you." (Exodus 28:3; 31:3; 35:31)
Examples of the Spirit granting spiritual revelation: wisdom, knowledge
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him. (Ephesians 1:17)
But just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.” For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-11)
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. (1 Corinthians 2:14)
Examples of the Spirit granting anointed speech
The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue. (2 Samuel 23:2)
When they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour; for it is not you who speak, but it is the Holy Spirit. (Mark 13:11)
But they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. (Acts 6:10)
Receiving a fear (reverence) of the Lord – Be careful not to grieve the Spirit.
But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore, He turned Himself to become their enemy, and He fought against them. (Isaiah 63:10)
You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did. (Acts 7:51)
"Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:43-44)
They did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved. For this reason, God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false (2 Thess. 2:10-11)
Receiving strength through the Spirit
That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man. (Ephesians 3:16)
So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away; and I went embittered in the rage of my spirit, and the hand of the LORD was strong on me. (Ezekiel 3:14)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. (Acts. 10:38)
If I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matt. 12:28)
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. (Acts 2:4) One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; (1 Cor. 14:4)
- Speaking in tongues is a way of strengthening yourself in the Holy Spirit
- But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…. (Jude 20)
- And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. (Acts 13:52)
- Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." (Neh. 8:10)
- Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 15:13)
Receiving knowledge from the Spirit
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (John 14:26) Spontaneous recall!
Knowledge to make a wise decision: While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts 13:2)
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (John 16:13)
Daniel came in before me, whose name is Belteshazzar according to the name of my god, and in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and I related the dream to him, saying, …“This is the dream which I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you…” (Dan. 4)
Receiving counsel and guidance from the Spirit
Counsel: For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials. (Acts 15:28)
Guidance: They were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them. (Acts 16:7)
For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14-16)
I often experience the Spirit’s seven-fold ministry through two-way journaling
Hearing God's voice is as simple as: 1) quieting down (Ps. 62:1-5), 2) beholding Jesus at my right hand (Ps. 16:8; Acts 2:25), 3) asking for His revelation and tuning to flowing thoughts and flowing pictures (Jn. 7:37-39; Jer. 2:13; 10 pictures), and 4) recording this flow (Hab. 2:1,2; Rev. 1:9-11). I then test it, ensuring it lines up with Scripture (Ps. 1:2; Jn. 10:35; 1 Thess. 5:2) and is affirmed in the hearts of my three spiritual advisors (2 Cor. 13:1; Prov. 11:14). See this link.
Reviewing the 7-fold ministry of the Spirit: The spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge, and the fear of the LORD. (Isa. 11:2)
Receiving wisdom through journaling: Lord, what work am I to apply myself to NOW: Mark, review & consolidate your past blogs into topical series. Add videos of you speaking the heart message of each blog. This is the name of the hour. Enjoy this process. Celebrate this process. It is what I have called you to today. It is your job, your joy, and your gift to future generations. It will be cherished by many.
I journaled about how to teach a class: Mark, during this class session, I want you to declare MY view of dreams.
- I speak through the dream.
- I give wonderful counsel through the dream.
- I heal through the dream.
- I love through the dream.
- I am the greatest dreamer of all time. No one compares to me.
- All should honor their dreams richly.
Thank You, Lord.
You are welcome, My son.
Receiving wisdom, knowledge, counsel through my two-way journaling:
Lay to rest your concerns about (an organization). I will deal with the situation. You do not need to write them. They know your thoughts.
Serve fully those who COME TO YOU! They are NOT an interruption!
This reminded me of counsel given years earlier when I was assigned to set up a print shop within the church… “Don’t give it a lick and a promise. Do it right!”
Receiving knowledge for how to receive healing of a skin eruption: Speak to the things crawling within your system that are NOT to be there: “Die, dissolve, and be cleansed out, in Jesus' name.”
Receiving counsel: Lord, I am discouraged: Mark, it is because in the mornings you read the news headlines BEFORE you come to Me for MY view of the day. The headlines are written by unanointed people of the world. Why read that? Why not pray for governments instead, and journal, and hear from Me? Wouldn’t that be better? I DO answer prayer!
- Sorry, Lord. I will do that.
- Jesus: In so doing, your heart will be healed.
My gratitude: Lord, I thank You that Your mercies are new every morning. I awakened this morning refreshed in body, soul, and spirit. Thank You, Lord!
- You are welcome, My son. You are welcome.
When I was tired and discouraged for having to wait 25 years for one of His promises to me to be fulfilled, I received the following through journaling.
- Mark, the reward you have waited for so long now waits at the door. Even though it tarries, wait for it in faith. I am your provider through each and every day of your life. So I will take care of you and of the message I have given you to shepherd in My earth.
- Thank You, Lord. I receive and I believe Your words and Your promises, and in Your blessings.
LIVE Tuned to FLOW! Ten pictures reveal that the Spirit is sensed as a flow.
- River flowing within: Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink (think flow). "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'" But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive. (Jn. 7:37-39)
- River flowing from the throne: Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Rev. 22:1-2)
- Flowing sap: "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up..." (Jn. 15:6).
- Living out of another: "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. (Jn. 15:5-7)
- Paga (flowing thoughts and pictures): The Hebrew word for intercession is paga, and it means to strike or light upon by chance, or accidental intersecting.
- Naba (bubbling thoughts and pictures): The Hebrew word for prophesying and the literal meaning is to “bubble up”.
- Blowing wind: "The wind blows (think “flow”) where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit." (Jn. 3:8 and Acts 2:2-4)
- Bubbling fountain: "For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, The fountain of living waters (think flow), To hew for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That can hold no water. (Jer. 2:13)
- Divine initiative: I do nothing on my own initiative but only what I hear and see... (think flowing words and flowing pictures - found 11 times in this blog).
- Flowing speech: "When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you (think flowing, bubbling words) in that very hour what you ought to say." (Lk. 12:11-12)
Symbols & emblems allow us to see and feel the Holy Spirit.
- FLOW: A River (Jn. 7:38-39)
- Pouring down upon me: A Poured-Out Blessing (Isa. 44:3-4)
- Lubricates: Oil of Blessing Poured Out (1 Sam. 16:13; Ps. 133:1-3)
- Heat: Fire (Isa. 4:4)
- Insight: The Illuminator (1 Cor. 2:10-11; Eph. 1:17ff.)
- Breeze: Cool, refreshing wind (Jn. 3:8)
- Fire: Tongues as of fire (Acts 2:3,4)
- Gentleness: A dove (Mk. 1:10)
- Radiance - glow: Spirit of Glory (2 Cor. 3:8,18; 1 Pet. 4:14).
- Misty cloud: A Descended Cloud of Glory (Num. 11:25; 2 Chron. 5:14)
Four keys used in two-way journaling – where we hear from the Spirit
